Day 11 – K for Random Acts of Kindness

Day 11 – K for Random Acts of Kindness

Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.

Henry James

Life is difficult, but it gets easier with those random acts of kindness. I am grateful for them. Those little acts remain etched in the memory always. Sometimes it’s just a smile, or asking someone how are they feeling! Kindness begins at home! One does not need more money or more time to be kind. We just require a bigger heart.

A random act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a tremendous impact on someone else’s life.

Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart.

As a young girl, during MBBS I used to travel from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, India to Una in Himachal Pradesh, India. The journey involved train travel of 28 hrs to Ambala, Haryana, India. From there I would take a train to Chandigarh, Punjab. Then I would take a bus to Una, my home town. I would usually reach home by late 10 or 11 pm. Travelling alone, my parents would be worried especially because of the wee hours. Had it not been the kindness of numerous people, the journey would be so difficult. Few of my friends lived in Chandigarh. There parents would usually insist I stay overnight and then go next morning, as they too would be worried. Sometimes. I would insist on going. They would ensure I got a bus. The bus drivers / conductors would treat me like their own daughter and handover to my parents. In the country, where rape statistics are so high, such people do coexist.

Last year, I moved to United Kingdom. There have been so many little moments which have really made my transition very easy. Rather than being pushed from Day 1, what I really find endearing is the way seniors, juniors and colleagues have tried to make me comfortable in my work.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

There are so many things from K, like Knives which make cutting easy. Kitchen where we cook. Cooking is a stress buster for me, and kitchen is my own personal space. I am thankful for them.

K also stands for kiss. I am thankful for the loving kisses, which do make feel one loved.
